Finlaggan Old reserveA few months ago I purchased a bottle of Finlaggan – Old Reserve from World of Whisky, Cosmopolitan, Double Bay, Sydney.

Its an amazing single malt Islay that I have fallen in love with and replaced my favourite Caol Isla.
Nose: A very subtle nose, not as dramatic as most Islays, full fruit with nutty overtones. 22

Taste: A very smooth introduction with a hint of chocolate and then the peat hits you, followed by more peat and then even more. Wonderful. 23

Finish: Incredible, the chocolate smooth taste full of overflowing peat just goes on and on and on. This is the most remarkable feature of this whisky. Absolutely sensational finish. 24 (continue reading…)

Origin: Scotland
Region: Highlands (Doune, Perthshire)
Owner: Burn Stewart Distillers
Distillery: Deanston Disitillery
Type: Single Malt
Age: 12 years

Bottled 2009.

Colour: Pale Straw.

Nose: A savoury, light fruit and nut introduction tells you straight away this whisky is going to be a gentle and kind mistress. Further inspection reveals dried apricot and citrus notes, some cereal with hints of coconut and crisp granny smith apples. 21

Taste: The liquid hits the front palate straight away, sweet but not sticky. (continue reading…)
