272. Finlaggan Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Old Reserve – Review
by on Nov.22, 2010, under Scotch Whisky, Scottish Single Malt Whisky
A few months ago I purchased a bottle of Finlaggan – Old Reserve from World of Whisky, Cosmopolitan, Double Bay, Sydney.
Its an amazing single malt Islay that I have fallen in love with and replaced my favourite Caol Isla.
Nose: A very subtle nose, not as dramatic as most Islays, full fruit with nutty overtones. 22
Taste: A very smooth introduction with a hint of chocolate and then the peat hits you, followed by more peat and then even more. Wonderful. 23
Finish: Incredible, the chocolate smooth taste full of overflowing peat just goes on and on and on. This is the most remarkable feature of this whisky. Absolutely sensational finish. 24
Balance & Compelxity: A wonderfully subtle Islay, very smooth with an amazing peaty taste that has the most sensational finish of peat that lingers for ever. A brilliant whisky, to be appreciated by those who prefer subtlety and an incredible finish and aftertaste. 24
